Dabbling in photography since his teens, Dennis has always exhibited a keen eye for composition, shape, colour and light. His profession as a dentist required a steady hand, working to accuracy counted in millimeters. Carving requires a combination of these skills. Years of having lived in northern B.C. kindled a respect for the beauty of wood.
Although he has only been carving for about four years, he found it easy to adapt some of his well-honed professional techniques to successfully working with this medium. Dennis allows each piece of wood to dictate it’s finished form as he works.
My aim is to merge my own creative vision with the organic lines of each unique piece of wood, sometimes incorporating other natural elements like shell or stone.
