About the Artist
Andrew Whittington grew up on the coast of British Columbia, surrounded by water, forest, and the shifting tones and movement that come with life near the ocean. Those early landscapes shaped the way he saw the world. Long before he understood that, he was drawing constantly - in school they'd take his paper away, so he drew on his hands instead. Creating has always been something instinctive for Andrew, not something he chose later.

"When my partner and I made the decision to move our family to the Kootenays, it was more than a change of scenery. It was a deliberate leap into something unknown. We left behind what was familiar to pursue a life built on intention - gratitude for where we came from, and courage for where we're heading. That shift gave me the space to finally take my art seriously, not as a side pursuit but as a central part of our life.
In my work, I'm trying to capture the emotional fingerprint of a place - the feeling you register before you ever name what you're looking at. I'm drawn to underwater scenes, quiet forests, and the natural rhythms that often go unnoticed. Painting is how I bring those subtle moments forward and share the things I notice with others: the layered colour, the shifting patterns, the sense of being held by a landscape.
Every piece is part of that journey - rooted in where I come from, shaped by where my family and I are now, and grounded in gratitude for all of it."
