The days are getting shorter at Mattick's Farm, and the gallery is filling up with winter. Snowy woods, frosted trees, glowing candles and little treasures made by hand: our artists have brought in pieces that feel like the season, and every one of them is a gift that someone made with care.
Here are a few of our favourites this year.
Brenda Walker's Winter series
No one paints the season quite like Brenda Walker. Her encaustic Winter series is a whole snowy neighbourhood: the little houses of Holly Street, snow angels and snowmen, and her much-loved Oh Christmas Tree paintings, all glowing in layers of wax. These are among the most asked-for pieces in the gallery every December, so if one catches your eye, don't wait. See the whole Winter series.
Winter on the walls
Marc Baur's Path Through Snowy Woods is a quiet, monochrome forest built from layers of dyed paper, with the sun only a soft glow through the trees. Adriana Green's Winter Bloom is a cold wax painting with deep, layered texture.
A little holiday cheer
Nikol Wikman's Snow Day is pure joy in mixed media. Cindy Obuck's encaustic Starbright and Starburst are small, luminous pieces that are easy to fall for and easy to wrap.
Gifts for the home
From Lunauria Lux Candles: the Frostlight Trio, a limited winter release of three seasonal scents, plus Winterveil (cranberry, cinnamon and caramel vanilla) and Starlit Ember (tobacco, vanilla and dried fruit). And Monica Maya's brass ornament with hand-felted merino wool flowers is a keepsake that comes out every year.
Give something made by hand
Everything shown below is available now, in the gallery and online. Many are one of a kind, so when a piece is gone, it's gone. Come and see them in person at Mattick's Farm, or shop from home.
