Wilma Millette

I am a collage, mixed media artist from Vancouver Island in Canada. I have been playing with this medium for about 12 years. I strive to create a narrative in my pieces, hoping to give some relevance to the materials I use. I love the ordinary, often discarded and well-worn  objects and paper ephemera from the past. A hand written recipe for Gone with the Wind cake, a receipt for oranges from the Asylum for the Chronic Insane, an old plan of Vatican City, an optical lens, an old key… all these are intriguing to me. They have a certain beauty that is often lacking in the modern world of mass production. I like to think that the people who made them all those years ago would be pleased.I layer old papers or digital scans of the originals with the paint, glue and ink and add photos and treasures from my junk collection. I do both collage on wooden panels and assemblage pieces in shadow boxes.I am fluent in both French and English. Although my posts are predominately English I do sometimes post in French.
